Michael Williams is a Barrister of the Middle Temple and the High Court of Australia. He served in the Royal Hong Kong Police (as it then was), the Royal Australian Air Force Police and the British Army Intelligence Corps (TA) before qualifying as a legal practitioner in 1998. He practised as a Senior Crown Prosecutor and Revenue and Customs Prosecutor in England, as Crown Counsel in Queensland, and latterly as In-house Counsel with the General Medical Council.

Michael holds statutory appointments as a Legal Assessor to Panels and Committees of the Health Professions Council, General Medical Council and General Teaching Council for England. He chairs the Appeal Committee of the Chartered Insurance Institute, is a member of the Disciplinary Committee of the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy and also sits as an independent member of the West Midlands, West Mercia, Staffordshire and Warwickshire Police Misconduct Panels. He has lectured extensively to both academic and professional audiences and is co-author of the Dictionary of Law Enforcement, published by Oxford University Press in 2007.
